McLean Co. Missfits Promote Empowerment and Community

BLOOMINGTON – The McLean County Missfits hosted their first home intra-league roller derby bout last night at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum, bringing a raucous BloNo crowd to cheer their home team.

The Missfits Allstars emerged victorious over the Peoria Push B Team with a score of 132 – 112. Also competing in the first bout were the Alpha Betties and the Cupquakes.

Roller derby is a contact team sport that promotes women’s empowerment and community involvement. Roller derby participants regularly give back to the community, and proceeds from roller derby events go to charity. Last night the McLean County Missfits cut a $20,000 check to the organization Relay for Life, which raises money to fight cancer.

To get a taste of roller derby as a sport, visit the McLean County Missfits website. There’s a lot of information on their site, including video and pictures. Just BloNo took some video of last night’s event, found below. Included are the introductions of the team players, the first two jams, and the jam that resulted in the Missfits victory.
