Occupy BloNo Meets in First General Assembly

Over 35 people gathered Sunday evening on the Normal roundabout, in an open and democratic general assembly, to organize this week’s Occupy BloNo activities and begin planning for an occupation in solidarity with Occupy Wall Street.

Much was discussed in the meeting, including the focus of the movement, meeting procedure, the importance of having an occupation in BloNo, and ways to build the movement locally.

It was decided to work in solidarity with Occupy Wall Street and its Declaration of the Occupation of New York City and continue to discuss the movement’s focus in future general assemblies. Much of the subsequent discussion of the assembly was in planning two actions in the upcoming week and beginning an occupation in BloNo that will be the local center of the movement. General assemblies will be held at this week’s occupations and actions.

The decided time-line of this week’s activities are:

Thursday, October 13 – Occupy ISU
Begin the occupation at the ISU campus (College Ave. bridge), in solidarity with the Occupy Colleges Student Solidarity Protest
11 am: Pre-rally on the ISU campus, bridge over College Avenue
11 am – 2 pm: Occupation of the bridge, beginning the over-night occupation of the campus
2 pm: General Assembly
3:30 pm: Speak-out at the bridge
7 pm: Panel Discussion: “Resisting American Empire” (https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=238735146172433)
8 pm: General Assembly

Saturday, October 15 – March from ISU to Bloomington
In solidarity with the International Day of Action
9 am: Meetup at ISU bridge (with General Assembly/Training Session)
10 am: March to Bloomington, parallel to ISU Homecoming parade
11 am: Arrive downtown Bloomington during the Farmer’s Market
12 noon: Downtown Bloomington General Assembly
