Vision 2020 Event Promotes Permaculture

The Bloomington-Normal Transition Initiative group Vision 20/20 hosted a picnic on June 30th, 2012, to bring community members together and to discuss permaculture practices. Rocío Peralta gave a report back on a workshop on permaculture that she had attended in the community of Stelle, IL.

Permaculture is a type of ecological design that focuses on sustainability and is modeled on natural ecosystems. Rocío mentioned twelve permaculture principles such as reducing waste, collecting rainwater, taking advantage of symbiotic interactions between plants and animals, and being creative about making the best use of space. After Rocío’s presentation, members of Vision 20/20 discussed how they have been working on aspects of permaculture locally and how to implement permaculture principles.

For more information about permaculture, see the Midwest Permaculture website and the Bloomington-Normal Vision 20/20 website for more information about future events and to get involved in the group’s local permaculture efforts.
