Stand with Walmart Workers on Black Friday

UPDATE: Info on the Black Friday strikes and protest —
Huffington Post Synopsis
The Nation Magazine Blog on the Actions

Wal-Mart workers are asking for our solidarity with their nationwide campaign for better working conditions and the right to organize on the job. There are many ways to demonstrate our solidarity — from joining a local protest of Wal-Mart to withholding our money.

If you want to join a local action, the Interfaith Worker Justice is organizing an action in BloNo, 10 am on Black Friday, at the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Normal, IL.

Activists with Occupy Peoria are organizing a leafletting at the Peoria Wal-Mart, Friday 7:30 am. The address of the Wal-Mart is 3315 N University St, Peoria, IL.

You can also register your support for the boycott on Facebook. Support the walk-out, don’t buy from Walmart!

  1. The Black Friday Action in Peoria was a great success. We had two teams, one inside and one outside. Outside we handed handbills to incoming shoppers and inside we put management on its toes handing out handbills to the workers. We made audience specific handbills. Consumer handbills held information on the high cost of low prices and wages. The Employee Handbills had a paraphrase of sections 7 and 8 of the National Labor relations act of 1932 on them, providing legal protections for organizing workers. We went to four wal-mart stores in about 4 hours. Hitting them quick and staying until we got kicked out by management, once was by a police officer, all of which was a violation of Section 8 of the NLRA. It was a very productive day, we intend to do it again sometime.
