On Monday, May 20, Director Josh Fox will be present at the Normal Theater for his national premiere of Gasland II, a sequel to his first film which informed millions of Americans of the dangers posed by gas extraction process known as fracking.
Doors open at 6:30 pm, with a start-time of 7 pm. Josh Fox will lead a discussion on fracking following the film at 9 pm.
The film screening is part of a national tour, and the choice of Normal, Illinois as its first stop highlights the importance central Illinois has taken in the movement to fight fracking. Illinois People’s Action (IPA), headquartered in Bloomington and the sponsor of the screening, has been a central partner in an environmentalist coalition opposing HB 2615, an industry bill that would provide the legal framework for fracking operations in the state.
For local coverage on fracking and the threat it poses for our state, read the fracking coverage and linked resources accessible above in the Just BloNo navigation bar. Also, to give IPA an idea of how many people will attend the film screening, you can register at their website. (Registering does not guarantee or reserve you a seat. Seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.)
